| Room size | Budget area | Business district | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small room (4–6 people) | £35–£60 | £60–£90 | £90–£150 |
| Medium room (8–12 people) | £60–£100 | £90–£140 | £140–£250 |
| Large room (20–30 people) | £120–£200 | £180–£300 | £300–£500 |
Hourly rates from Zipcube's 2026 London guide (February 2026). For comparison, Tagvenue's October 2026 data gives average hire fees of £46 per hour for small rooms (up to 5 guests), £78 for medium rooms (10–15 guests) and £144 for large rooms (20+ guests). Wezoo puts a mid-range room in a City or West End building at £70–£90 per hour.
What this means for you: for a team of 8–12 in a central business district, budget around £90–£140 an hour for a standard meeting room. A design-led venue costs more per hour, but you get the whole space to yourselves.
What do Woolly Mammoth's London venues actually cost?
We looked at the starting rates of every venue listed on woolly-mammoth.io: lofts, townhouses, penthouses, galleries and event spaces, mostly in Shoreditch, Old Street, Clerkenwell, London Bridge and Covent Garden. They cost more than a typical office meeting room because you hire a whole design-led space, usually for 16–30 guests.
Median starting rate by group size, from 64 venue pages.
- Half of the venues for 16–30 guests start between £145 and £195 per hour.
- A day rate costs about the same as 8 hours: book the day if you need most of it.
- Group size drives the price: venues for 60+ guests start at about twice the hourly rate of a 30-person space.

Median starting rate listed on each venue page today, excluding VAT (20%). Group size is each venue's standing capacity. Final prices depend on the date, the type of event and the services you add.
What this means for you: if your session runs most of a working day, ask for the day rate. It usually costs the same as about 8 hours.
How much do meeting rooms cost in different parts of London?
Location changes the price, sometimes by a factor of two. Zipcube's 2026 guide puts full-day hire of a large room at £750–£1,500 in Shoreditch, £1,200–£2,000 in Soho and £1,500–£2,800 in the West End. In the City, a conference for 50+ people runs £2,600–£4,800 a day, and a large room for half a day in King's Cross or Paddington costs £520–£880.
Across Woolly Mammoth's venues, the areas with at least four listings compare like this:
| Area | Venues | Median per hour | Median per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shoreditch | 8 | £160 | £1,300 |
| Old Street | 6 | £325 | £2,600 |
| London Bridge | 5 | £290 | £2,300 |
| West London | 4 | £210 | £1,650 |
| Clerkenwell | 4 | £165 | £1,300 |
| East London | 4 | £165 | £1,300 |
| Covent Garden | 4 | £145 | £1,150 |
Median starting rates shown on Woolly Mammoth venue pages, October 2026, excluding VAT. Areas with fewer than four venues are left out.
What this means for you: Old Street and London Bridge look expensive because several venues there are large event spaces for 60 to 180 guests. For a team of 20, Shoreditch, Clerkenwell and Covent Garden have several venues at around £150 an hour.
Which kind of meeting room do you need?
The right room depends on what the meeting is for. Here's what to look for in each case.
Board meeting or leadership session (6–12 people)
- What to expect: one large table, a screen, privacy and quiet.
- Budget: £90–£140 an hour for a room for 8–12 people in a central business district (Zipcube).
- The trade-off: serviced office rooms are efficient but anonymous; a private home or loft makes a stronger impression on senior guests.
- What to ask: can the screen take a laptop and a video call at the same time?
Workshop or design sprint (10–30 people)
- What to expect: tables you can move, wall space for post-its, natural light and a breakout corner.
- Budget: design-led venues for 16–30 guests on Woolly Mammoth start at a median of about £160 an hour (October 2026).
- The trade-off: a characterful space keeps energy up, but check there's a quiet area for phone calls.
- What to ask: can we stick things on the walls, and are whiteboards or flip charts included?
Training day or presentation (20–60 people)
- What to expect: theatre or classroom seating, a large screen and good sound.
- Budget: £180–£300 an hour for a room for 20–30 people in a business district (Zipcube); more for bigger groups.
- The trade-off: large rooms are easier to find in event venues than in offices, but they cost more per hour.
- What to ask: is a microphone included, and who helps if the tech fails?
Offsite or away day (15–40 people)
- What to expect: the whole space to yourselves, a kitchen for lunch, sometimes a terrace or garden.
- Budget: book a day rate: a median of about £1,300 for Woolly Mammoth venues for 16–30 guests (October 2026).
- The trade-off: a full day costs more upfront, but it's usually cheaper than paying by the hour.
- What to ask: can we bring our own caterer, and what time do we need to be out?
Hybrid meeting
- What to expect: a camera that sees the whole table, a good microphone and reliable Wi-Fi.
- The trade-off: a beautiful room with poor sound frustrates remote colleagues.
- What to ask: can we run a test call before the day?
How much does a 20-person workshop cost in London? A worked example
Here's a realistic budget for a full-day workshop for 20 people in a design-led London venue:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Venue, full day (median for 16–30 guests on Woolly Mammoth) | £1,300 |
| Working lunch, £10–£30 per person | £200–£600 |
| Subtotal | £1,500–£1,900 |
| VAT (20%) | £300–£380 |
| Total | £1,800–£2,280 |
That's about £90–£115 per person, including lunch and VAT. For comparison, Zipcube puts a hotel or conference day delegate rate (room, refreshments and lunch) at £65–£130+ per person, but it's mostly offered for larger groups in hotels and conference centres.
What affects the price of a meeting room in London?
- Location: the City and the West End are the most expensive areas; a room that costs £80 an hour on a quiet Wednesday can cost £120 during a major conference week (Zipcube).
- Capacity: larger rooms mean higher rates.
- Facilities: screens, AV kit and breakout spaces add value and cost.
- Style: character homes and design-led venues carry a premium, because they make guests feel welcome and say something about your brand.
- Timing: the same room can cost more on a busy date, so ask whether off-peak or midweek rates are available.
What extra costs should you budget for?
Always check the fine print. Common extras include:
- VAT at 20%, which isn't always included in quotes
- Cleaning or reset fees
- Overtime, if your meeting runs late
- A refundable damage deposit
- Catering service charges or corkage
- Equipment upgrades, such as extra microphones or hybrid meeting kits
How can you pay less for a meeting room in London?
- Book the day rate if you need the room for eight hours or more: it costs about the same as eight hours.
- Be flexible on the date: the same room can cost more during busy weeks.
- Check the minimum booking length before comparing hourly prices.
- Compare the total, not the hourly rate: cleaning, AV and VAT can change the ranking.
- Think per person: a whole venue for 25 people can cost less per head than a hotel room priced per delegate.
Is it cheaper to hire a meeting room by the hour or by the day?
If you need the room for eight hours or more, book the day rate. For a half day, the hourly rate is usually cheaper. On Woolly Mammoth, a day rate costs about the same as eight hours at the hourly rate.
Do London meeting rooms include catering?
Some include tea, coffee and water. Full catering is usually an add-on or arranged through a partner caterer. See our guide to corporate catering costs in London.
Can I bring my own suppliers?
Often yes, but check the house rules. Some venues charge corkage or a coordination fee.
How far in advance should I book a meeting room in London?
Book at least 2–3 weeks ahead for a standard meeting, and much earlier for larger groups or peak dates. More in our guide on how far in advance to book a meeting room.
What is a day delegate rate (DDR)?
A day delegate rate is a price per person for a day's meeting, usually including the room, refreshments and lunch. Hotels and conference centres use it for larger groups: Zipcube's 2026 guide puts it at about £65 per person in budget areas, £95 in business districts and £130+ in premium locations.
Is VAT included in London meeting room prices?
Usually not. Most venues quote prices excluding VAT, which adds 20% to the bill. On Woolly Mammoth, the hourly and daily rates shown on each venue page exclude VAT.
